Meet Dean and Beloved Long Runs

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Dean Wight or communicating with him over email or WhatsApp, you would have definitely been greeted by his standard greeting, “Hello, hello.”

Dean is well known amongst the Durban running community for his passion and efforts in growing the sport.  He was introduced to running at 11 years old and fell in love with running.  He has run countless marathons and ultras, and his love for running lead to the start of Beloved Long Runs. BLR is a perfect example of a livelihood been fueled by a dream and a passion.

Beloved Long Runs organizes community runs every Saturday, in and around Durban, and everyone is welcome. No matter your age, size or speed, Dean’s BLR’s are for you.  The BLR runs are on the website, with the route map, distance and all the necessary details. The highlight on the Saturday morning is Dean’s hello, hello greeting followed by his shaking knees and then the route called in whistles – a truly unique route calling experience. If you live around Durban or are visiting, be sure to attend a BLR run.  They are great fun and are well organized with seconding tables for a nominal fee of R50.

Besides BLR organized community runs, BLR sells some great merchandise.  If you run in Durban, you will no doubt pass many runners wearing BLR kit.  It’s fun, it’s funky and some prints are so South African.  The range includes technical running shirts, vests, visors, buckets hats and socks, amongst a few other running related products. Prints for the running shirts include leopard print, the SA flag, and iconic SA slang words.
